New Calacatta Laza is the updated edition of one of MSI's signature Calacatta-look quartz designs — a bright white base with refined grey-taupe veining that captures the iconic Italian Calacatta marble look in a non-porous engineered surface. The "New" version refines vein contrast and base tone over the original.
The base reads cleaner and brighter than the prior edition, and the veining has been refined to read more naturally. Vein clusters break and gather in patterns that mimic real quarried marble flow, with translucent transitions where lines meet. The "New" version also benefits from improved batch consistency for fabricators planning long counter runs.
Islands with waterfall returns, full-height splashes, and feature walls where the vein pattern can run continuously and read as the room's anchor design. On busy galley layouts with heavy cabinet detail, the bold veining can compete , pair it with quieter cabinet styles like flat-panel painted slab or simple Shaker rather than ornate raised-panel doors.
Real Calacatta marble etches under any acid (lemon juice, vinegar, wine, tomato sauce) and stains permanently from oils. The quartz interpretation captures the visual signature without the maintenance reality. For a working US kitchen, the trade-off is fair: pattern repeats are consistent within the design, but the stone holds up to daily cooking life.
Walk the full slab at a fabricator before final cut. Vein placement on bold designs determines how the seams read, and dry-laying the slabs before cutting prevents an awkward break in the pattern flow at any seam line.
