Keelie Starless is a painted Shaker door from Kitchen Craft's Keelie line in a deep, near-black charcoal with a slight cool undertone. The "Starless" name evokes the depth of an unlit night sky — a dark anchor color that reads richer than pure black and more refined than industrial graphite.
The color sits at the deep end of the charcoal spectrum with a subtle cool undertone that keeps it from reading warm or muddy. Under 2700K bulbs the door reads close to true black; under 4000K daylight it lifts barely toward dark grey. The slight cool cast distinguishes Starless from the warmer Lexington Charcoal , they're both dark anchors, but they belong in different palettes.
Modern moody kitchens, contemporary remodels with deep palettes, and dramatic island designs paired with white perimeter cabinetry. Full-perimeter Starless works in larger kitchens with strong natural light and warm flooring , in small or low-light kitchens, balance with light counters and pale backsplash to keep the room from feeling closed in.
Brushed nickel and polished chrome both fit the cool palette; matte black blends visually into the door. Aged brass creates strong contrast that reads designed but can compete with the cool undertone. For counters, white-veined quartz with cool grey tones, soft cream marble look-alikes, and soapstone all pair cleanly. Skip warm-cream quartz, which fights the cool depth.
Dark painted finishes show fingerprints and dust more than light colors. A microfiber and a drop of dish soap handles daily wipe-down. Avoid abrasive scrubs that can dull the conversion finish over time.
Order a sample door and view it next to your counter and floor under your kitchen's actual lighting. Deep charcoals shift more between conditions than buyers expect.
